The Château de Raissac is located near the river Orb, 3 kms North of Béziers, in the heart of the province of Languedoc, by the Mediterranean sea.

     A mansion which has gone
     through many changes during
     the different periods of it's
     long existence...

Raissac was first built on the ruins of a Roman villa. The architecture has been several times modified during centuries up to its present XVIIIth and XIXth century’s styles.

The Château is a beautiful example of the glorious XIXth century prosperous wine producing period in Languedoc, when the famous architect Louis Garros (1833-1911) from Bordeaux built and refashioned numerous castles in this area.
The garden was redesigned by the just as well known Bühler into a charming French styled park.

Another interesting feature in the structure and life of this charming chateau is the well kept XIXth century stables letting us to imagine the importance in past times of keeping horses and to keep them in luxury. The whole building is now open to the public and has been transformed into reception rooms with lodging. You will also discover a fascinating Museum of the XIXth century European ceramic manufactures as Sarreguemines, Gien, Lunéville, Minton etc., followers of Bernard Palissy and Christine Viennet’s well known work of ceramic Trompe l’œil and palissyware.

Raissac’s wine cellars are located on the top of the hill, carved into the rock in the XVIIth century to assure the correct temperature of the wine.

A well known family in a rich
     historic area...

Joseph Barthélémy Viennet acquired the Château de Raissac on the 15th of July 1828, 9 years later, through mariage the farm "Puech Cocut" on the top of the above hill became Raissac's wine cellars.
Thus, for almost two hundred years the Viennet's have grown wine at Raissac.
Today, Christine and Jean Viennet contribute to the artistic life of the Domain while their children Cécile and Gustave continue the Art of making wine.

An artistic passion : painting and
     ceramic trompe l'œil
...

The Château de Raissac, a welcoming domain, offers various attractive aspects to it's visit:
Besides discovering the cellars, the winery and taste the wines, you can enjoy temporary Art exhibitions and the exquisite Ceramic Museum in the old stables. Christine Viennet exhibits a rich collection of the 19th century Arts of the Table and the followers of Bernard Palissy, as well as her own artwork.
